Let us share a story with you…

Tomato Family Greenhouse started unintentionally in a little town outside of Green Bay Wisconsin in 2012. We had planted several hundred tomato seeds that year for our family garden not knowing that 98% of them would germinate. We ended up having over four-hundred tomato plants! Overwhelmed by our gardening success, we gave tomatoes away to everyone we knew---and even people we didn't know!

That was when we had an epiphany. We could use our green thumbs to not only grow food for our family, we could grow plants as a side business! We begin to strategize how we could utilize a greenhouse to grow various plants from seed. We realized if we saved the seeds year to year, we would better our stock through sustainable practices. So, that is just what we did. Our plants became a hit within the local area!

However, seasons change in life just like they do in agriculture. Before the 2018 growing season, we felt it was time for a BIG change. We moved our family from Wisconsin to Kansas and left our greenhouse business behind. What we didn’t leave behind apparently was our passion for growing our own organic sustainable foods. So, we soon started our greenhouse business back up here at our current location in Scranton, KS.

Our unique practice of growing only open pollinated heirloom plants and produce has helped to set us apart in the marketplace. We currently have over fifty-two types of Tomatoes in over eight color groups including White, Green, Red, Black, Pink, Orange, and Yellow as well as several striped and multicolored varieties.

Enter Accidental Pepper Company…

After a friend gave us a homemade bottle of hot sauce he had made from homegrown ghost peppers, we could not resist adding hot peppers to our garden as well. A surplus of peppers in 2019 led us into progressively experimenting with creating our own hot sauces, chili sauces, and salsas. The rest is history, as they say!

In response to rave reviews from our garden and produce customers, what has become The Happy Accidental Pepper Company was officially born in 2020! In addition to our sauces and salsas, we now offer over fifty-eight types of peppers, including twenty-five of the world’s hottest peppers!

Grow Where Your Planted…

In response to our customers’ needs (and our own horticultural ambition), we now grow and have for sale many other plants such as squash, cucumbers, melons, okra, onions, and eggplants. We have even ventured into the world of growing flowers! We now offer several types of edible flowers as well as decorative flowers intended for houseplants and hanging baskets. In order to better serve our customers, we have also begun marketing our personal fertilizer mix, soil, and planting containers as well.

In spite of our rapid growth, we intend to continue the expansion of our inventory in order to accommodate our growing customer needs. Our desire is to make the Tomato Family Greenhouse a one stop shop for our customers. We are excited for the growth we have had and we look forward to seeing what the future holds!
